Thinking Beyond the Tumor: Integrating Germline Testing into Everyday Comprehensive Oncology Care

Dr. Slavin is a physician-scientist and biotech executive, triple-board-certified in clinical genetics, molecular diagnostics and pediatrics. He is the Chief Medical Officer of Diagnostics at Tempus. He previously held the positions of Chief Clinical Officer of Molecular Oncology at Quest Diagnostics and Chief Medical Officer at Myriad Genetics. He was a former assistant professor in the departments of Medical Oncology and Population Sciences at City of Hope National Medical Center. Dr. Slavin graduated medical school with Alpha-Omega-Alpha-honors from the University of South Florida. He completed his residency programs at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio; this training included a postdoctoral research year in genetic epidemiology. He has also completed graduate coursework toward a Master’s degree in clinical research through the University of Southern California and holds a Master’s in Business Administration through Columbia Southern University. He is a Touch4Life board member, a breast cancer awareness nonprofit for women of color. He is an active member of the American Association of Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Colorectal Cancer, and is a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. He has served on National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) committees for both the genetics of and screening for colorectal cancer. He has served on three ClinGen expert working group committees for variant classification of breast, gastrointestinal and ovarian cancer predisposition genes. Focused on expanding genetics education for cancer care providers, Dr. Slavin is an active faculty member of City of Hope’s hereditary genomics training program. He is a well-respected researcher in the field of medical genetics, publishing over 85 journal articles collectively evaluating genomic data from over 500,000 patients, multiple book chapters, and providing numerous presentations at national and international medical meetings. He has been involved in many national cancer research grants, and was a 2018 National Institutes of Health (NIH) K08-career development grant awardee.

Alan Tan, MD, serves as the Vice President of Research and Clinical Strategy at Tempus and is an Associate Professor and GU Medical Oncologist at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, TN.

With a clinical practice dedicated to bladder cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and prostate cancer, Dr. Tan’s research focuses on the intersection of biomarker development and treatment de-escalation strategies. A recognized leader in precision oncology, he has served as the senior author on several key publications in the ctDNA and MRD space, contributing to the evolving landscape of liquid biopsies and minimal residual disease monitoring to improve patient outcomes.  He previously served as GU Executive Officer at the NCI cooperative Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology.

Holly LaDuca is a Clinical Strategy Manager at Tempus Diagnostics, focusing on hereditary cancer. After beginning her career as a community-based cancer genetic counselor, she has spent over 10 years applying her genetic counseling skillset in laboratory and digital health settings. During this time, she has collaborated on 60+ publications. Ms. LaDuca is concurrently pursuing a PhD in Translational Health Science to help bridge gaps between research and practice and to integrate implementation science principles into clinical genetics and precision public health. She also enjoys engaging with genetic counseling students, especially to support thesis projects. 

Dr. Sanjay Juneja is a triple board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist serving as Vice President of Clinical AI Operations at Tempus AI. In this role, he leads strategies to integrate artificial intelligence into real-world oncology. He maintains an active practice with Citrus Oncology and serves on the Editorial Board of AI in Precision Oncology. A Louisiana native and LSU Honors College alumnus, Dr. Juneja has received prestigious honors, including being named Targeted Oncology’s 2024 Oncology Icon and attending the White House’s 2023 Healthcare Leaders in Social Media Roundtable. As founder of TensorBlack Inc., his expertise is frequently featured in The Washington Post and WIRED. Known globally as "TheOncDoc," he reaches over 750,000 professionals, using his platform and podcast to translate complex AI concepts for practitioners in over 100 countries.
